So I am a no longer a newlywed, with newlywed furniture and a newlywed budget. I have some great pieces of furniture that need an update to make our living room not so hodge podge anymore. My solution is to stain/paint these items to give the room a more homey and complete feel. I just don't know what to do or what to pick. My first instinct is black but then once I go black I can't go back. This is where you all come in. My sis in laws suggested blogging to find the answer so here are the pics of my furniture. Keep in mind that I have dark blue carpet (I know, I can't change that) and dark green sofas. Please help me decide what I should do with these. And what colors should I use.

If you're ever getting new couches and/or carpet, I would hold off painting your wood furniture until you have those picked out and then you can change the wood colors to match. If you can't wait, I think white with sanded edges and a darker stain would look good with what you've got going on now. (like the shelves in my house)
I love black, too! I don't know why, I just love it. I do think it would look good with a darker stain (it is totally "in" right now) or painted black. Since you can't change your carpet anytime soon, then you probably don't want to paint it green or something that will clash.
And the great thing about staining or black paint is that it is pretty much always in style. So 10 years from now it will still look good.
Those are my thoughts, but I'm not a decorator either!
I agree with the black (but I've already told you that). Apparently I'm not an interior decorator either or you just don't trust my taste. Whatever you do will be beautiful.
Megan: I love, love, love to paint furniture, so call me for some tips. My favorite thing to do is browse potterybarn.com or Rate My Space on HGTV.com. I like to use black or antique white with a stain or glaze over the top. Seriously, call me. Good luck!
